The Wind Rises is out today in UK cinemas and to celebrate, StudioCanal has released a new clip showing one the film’s dreams sequences, where viewers see a young Jiro fly through town.
The farewell masterpiece from the legendary Hayao Miyazaki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli and Academy Award-winning creator of Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and Ponyo, The Wind Rises is a fictionalised biography of Jiro Horikoshi, visionary designer of Mitsubishi A6M aircraft. A stunningly beautiful animated epic, the film charts one man’s struggle to achieve his childhood dreams of flight, and paying heartfelt tribute to the power of imagination.
On Hayao Miyazaki and taking on the role, Joseph Gordon-Levitt who voices Jiro said:
“I love really good movies and Miyazaki is clearly one of the living masters of filmmaking. I’ve been a fan of his movies for a number of years and so when I got the call that I had the opportunity to do a voice in the English version, I jumped at the chance. I feel like when I watch his movies, like Spirited Away for example or Princess Mononoke, you just get that feeling when you remember what it’s like to be 4 years old, when the world is a magical place. Everything is wondrous and he sort of invites you in to see that way again.”
