Inspired by the DIY efforts of the amazing Comic-con costumes, it has been vowed that the latest addition of Star Wars: Episode VII saga will be made using real locations and model props where ever possible. A statement made by film exec Kathleen Kennedy, the woman in charge of the newest release.
The LucasFilm boss made the announcement to fans at the Star Wars Celebration Europe convention is Essen, Germany. “We’re looking at what the early Star Wars films did; they used real locations with special effects. So [for Episode VII] we’re going to find some very cool locations, [and] we’re going to end up using every single tool in the toolbox.”
Kennedy was very impressed by the crowds in Germany and has obviously released that this fan culture is the biggest reason for Star Wars being such a success. The news went down very well with onlooking fans, waiting to hear how Disney were going to turn around the disappointment of the prequel trilogy, which were heavily criticised for over-relying on CGI. “I was amazed yesterday, looking at what the fans are doing,” Kennedy said. “Using model makers, using real droids, taking advantage of the artwork that you can touch and feel – we want to do that in combination with CG effects.”
The next big news also announced by Kennedy is that film score heavyweight John Williams will be returning to compose for the film. With a myriad of instantly recognisable themes under his belt (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Indiana Jones), Williams will be a happy return to a quality production. In a clip posted on the Star Wars website, Williams said he expected to weave familiar themes and motifs into the new score.
The new Star Wars film is looking to have the best staff making the movie the way it should be made, for both box office sales and fan pleasing originality. With a 2015 release date, we can’t wait for it.
