In July, Abrams’ production company, Bad Robot, were looking for some new writers to pen the third movie. Abrams’ regular collaborators and writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci had confirmed that they wanted to step back a little bit given the amount of writers and production credits that they currently have to their names.
Finally, it would seem, the search is over, and the relatively unknown duo of J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have been hired alongside Orci after Kurtzman recently stepped down completely from the film. The directors chair though, still remains vacant with no-one officially announced yet to fill the huge void.
Paramount is hoping for a 2016 release of Star Trek 3 which would tie in very nicely with the original Star Trek’s 50th anniversary.
