It has been recently revealed that Shia Labeouf has alienated the rest of the cast of ‘Fury‘, including fellow actor Brad Pitt, by refusing to shower throughout the entire duration of shooting the film.
It is claimed that Labeouf has abandoned all regard for his personal hygiene as part of a method acting technique in order help immerse himself in the role of a Second World War soldier. It is not unusual for actors to be ridiculed as a result of their method acting efforts usually due to their refusal to break character when off set but it seems clear that these techniques are often effective in achieving outstanding results (Daniel Day Lewis is perhaps the best example of this). However in the case of Labeouf, it seems things may have gone a little too far and he has received warnings on set by colleagues about his behaviour in addition to being relocated to a local bed and breakfast.
Despite all this though, it does seem fair to give Shia Labouf credit for taking a role seriously enough to not only endure the displeasure of his own poor personal hygiene but also of being shunned by his colleagues and the bad press he has received as a result. So after all the stink caused by this behaviour in addition to the furore caused by director David Ayer’s decision to film war scenes on Remembrance Sunday, let’s hope this film was worth all the trouble when it is released in November 2014.
