Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are adapting the book Console Wars, about the industry-defining era that saw Sega take on Nintendo.
Based on Blake Harris‘ Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo And The Battle That Defined A Generation, described as:
“riveting behind-the-scenes business thriller that chronicles how Sega, a small, scrappy gaming company led by an unlikely visionary, took on the juggernaut Nintendo and revolutionized the video game industry.”
The book focusses on the battles for market dominance of 16-bit consoles SNES and the Sega Mega Drive. The $50bn industry that is the gaming industry today goes as far back to this saga, the battles rage still even today, though of course the difference is the contenders are now Sony and Microsoft.
Developing the feature are Sony Pictures and The Social Network’s Scott Rudion, Rogen is set to direct and write the script with Goldberg.
Toby Mundy, who acquired the book, said:
“Blake Harris’s amazing book has all the narrative drama of the work of Michael Lewis and Ben Mezrich. It should appeal to gamers and non-gamers alike.”
