The tale of the controversial playwright has been depicted many times over the past few years, most famously by Stephen Fry in 1997. But now the suave and sophisticated Rupert Everett has decided to take on the role and make it his own by writing, directing and starring in the biopic; The Happy Prince.
Everett has managed to round up a brilliant British cast including Colin Firth, Edward Fox, Emily Watson and Tom Wilkinson, so expect a lot of dry British humour! The film has been described as “a comedy with tragic undertones” where the narrative will focus on Wilde’s final days as he realises his failure as a playwright. Everett has been a fan of Wilde’s work for many years and has appeared in adaptations of The Importance Of Being Earnest and An Ideal Husband.
Finance is now in place and shooting with start early next year!
