Actor, director and producer, Lord Richard Attenborough has died aged 90

Actor, director and producer, Lord Richard Attenborough has died aged 90, his son has told the BBC.

Famed for seven decades of contribution to film, winning two Oscars for the film Ghandi which he directed, and becoming the President of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (2001-2010).

As an actor he would be best known for his roles as Pinkie Brown in Brighton Rock (1947), Squadron Leader Roger Bartlett in The Great Escape (1963) and John Hammond in Jurassic Park (1992)

Alongside his brother David Attenborough, current presenter and naturalist documentary filmmaker, he will be remembered as a national cultural icon.

Richard Attenborough passed away lunchtime on Sunday.
