The photo shows Abrams, along with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and the first officially announced character for Star Wars: Episode VII, R2-D2! Yes the little blue and silver droid and partner in crime to C-3PO is going to be in the upcoming Abrams-directed 7th film in the Star Wars saga.
The other two people in the photo are Lee Towersey and Oliver Steeples, two fans of the films and also the builders of R2-D2 for the new movie. They met Kennedy when she toured the R2-D2 Builders area at Celebration Europe in Germany this summer. She was very complimentary about their creation and they were soon contacted by the films executive producer, Jason McGatlin to work on the film.
Inevitably rumours are now going to start flying around about who else is going to be in the film. So far it appears likely that Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill will be returning, but nothing concrete has yet been announced.
Star Wars: Episode VII is out on December 18th 2015
