George Clooney and co-writer/ producer Grant Heslov are bringing us an expert dramatisation of Robert Edsel’s novella, The Monuments Men, also starring Clooney, which tells the rather enthralling tale of 7 war time heroes who effectively protected our culture from the demolition path of Hitler’s Nazi Party during the grim years of World War II.
These 6 heroes compiled of architects and museum curators, played by an all star cast of Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Bob Balaban, Bill Murray, Jean Dujardin and John Goodman, all volunteered to help mission leader and serving solider played by George Clooney to protect buildings and retrieve artwork stolen by Hitler’s army. These men were given the very basic of military training on offer and yet still managed to succeed in their mission of protecting our arts.
With plenty of explosions, and a spot on comedic value, The Monuments Men is an original take on just one of many heroic events which took place between the years 1939 and 1945.
