The sequel to the teen sci-fi Divergent is preparing to shoot and has scored Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer to join the cast.
Famously known for her defecating pie scene in The Help, Octavia Spencer is set to play Johanna, the leader of the Amity faction who is struggling to keep her people under control, due to the events that happened in the first film.
Shailene Woodley will return as rebellious “divergent” Tris Prior, along with Theo James as Four and Kate Winslet as the evil villain Jeanine.
RED director Robert Schwentke will be directing the film, with Brian Duffield and Akiva Goldsman adapting Veronica Roth’s novel for the screen. The third and final novel, Allegiant will follow, spanning over two films that will be released in 2016 and 2017.
Spencer will next appear in the James Brown biopic Get On Up, which will be released on September 26th and DreamWorks spooky animation B.O.O: Bureau Of Otherworldly Operations, on July 17 next year.
