Hollywood has randomly decided to make two films retelling the old Disney story of Snow White this year. First of the two films is Mirror Mirror. Starring Oscar winner Julia Roberts, The Blind Side’s Lily Collins and The Social Network’s Armie Hammer, this contemporary adaptation adds a more feminist feel to the traditional love story. Like the original, Snow White is banished from the kingdom because the Queen (Roberts) is a self absorbed and self obsessed villain that admires beauty over everything else. However, unlike the original film, Snow White isn’t this lifeless maiden waiting for the prince to come and rescue her, Snow White here is an active heroic figure ready to tackle the evil Queen with her small yet fierce army.
With a more comedic feel and costumes brighter than ever, Mirror Mirror is said to be more popular than Snow White and the Huntsman that is to be released later this year.
