For some reason that we cannot fathom; Matthew Vaughn has decided to give up the directorial hot-seat on X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Maybe it is the pressure of making the sequel as good as the original that has got the director quaking in his boots…? Or maybe it is just scheduling issues. Whatever the reason, 20th Century Fox will have to find his replacement and quickly as the July 18th 2014 release date is not too far off.
A couple of months ago, the studio had the same issue with Rupert Wyatt who decided he didn’t want to direct Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes but luckily Cloverfield’s Matt Reeves was up for the challenge. Here the studio may not have to partake in a desperate search after all as original director and writer of the franchise Bryan Singer could take on the role. However, Singer has got a lot on his plate with the promotional duties that are coming up for his feature Jack The Giant Slayer, so we will just have to wait and see. Surely it will be awesome to see some old school X-Men being incorporated into the prequels.
But Vaughn’s name does not leave a bad taste in the studio’s mouth just yet, as the director has stated that he aims to make an adaptation of Mark Millar’s Secret Service for them. So maybe he just really believed he wasn’t good enough for the X-Men job? Who knows…
