Dawn isn’t out until July 17, but Fox have already made it clear that they are pleased with Reeves’ finished product even though the box office results and reviews are not even in yet. He will co-write the screenplay again with Dawn’s Mark Bomback and Scott Z. Burns and in collaboration with Rise of the Planet of the Apes writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
Given that this announcement has only just come, there is no mention of any cast yet, but presumably Andy Serkis will be back in his Mocap suit as the apes’ leader, Ceasar. Whether any of Dawn’s cast of Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell and Kodi Smit-McPhee will be joining him is yet to be discovered, awaiting at least the film’s release date.
Dawn is set 8 years after Rise and Caesar’s apes have taken over the planet with only a few remaining humans. The plot seems to be similar to Tim Burton’s 2001 version and the 1973 film Battle For The Planet Of The Apes.
The teaser trailer was released at the end of last year and if you haven’t yet seen it, you can view it below.
