Spacey has very recent experience playing a politician, albeit a fairly corrupt and unscrupulous one, as Frank Underwood in the Netflix hit, House Of Cards. It will be also be interesting to see another huge American actor playing a recognisable figure in British politics after Meryl Streep’s attempt at playing Margaret Thatcher in 2011’s The Iron Lady wasn’t such an overwhelming success. Although Streep was acclaimed, the film as a whole received mixed reviews and so whoever directs will need to ensure that the rest of the film will be up to scratch.
Spacey has only really been in a spattering of films in the last decade due to taking over the Old Vic as Artistic Director in 2003 and so this will see a welcome return to form. At the other end of the spectrum, he is also returning to star in Horrible Bosses 2 which hits the UK in November of this year.
