Filmmaker Richard Donner, to the surprise of many, has announced that he’s making a sequel to his classic 1985 adventure, The Goonies.
Donner fortuitously confirmed that they are doing a sequel during what appeared to be an impromptu ‘signing’ in public. When asked if any of the original film’s cast would return, he replied: “hopefully all of them.”
Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton, Jonathan Ke Quan, Kerri Green, Jeff Cohen, Robert Davi and Joe Pantoliano starred in the original classic about a group of kids set out on an adventure in search of pirate treasure that could save their homes from foreclosure.
To date two of the original cast members, Anne Ramsey and John Matuszak have since passed away, however Brolin, Astin, Plimpton, Davi and Pantoliano are all still busy working actors to this day.
There are currently no more details known about The Goonies sequel, although more news is surely to appear following this unexpected announcement.
