Since April 2011, 20th Century Fox have been hinting at developing further the masked vigilante in a brand new film entitled Zorro Reborn. Originally, the films starred Antonio Banderas, but this new take on the popular franchise has decided to take on new and improved aspects including changing the setting to a post-apocalyptic future and indeed changing Zorro himself.
The film, which will explore the origins of the character, will see Zorro as a hero in the future fighting for revenge. However, little else is known. The project still does not have a director in mind, yet a potential script written by Glenn Gers (Mad Money), Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy (Harker), will surely attract a director very soon.
Variety have confirmed that the Letters To Juliet star Gael Garcia Bernal will indeed be playing the iconic role. But will this work? Moving the film’s setting to the future and having a different actor playing the famous role may put some Zorro fans off. After reading fan blogs, it is clear to see that the Mexican star has his work cut out for him.
Shooting will take place later this year when a director is found.
We will have to wait and see whether 20th Century Fox have made the right decision in continuing the iconic franchise.
