Frank Grillo has been cast in the lead role, replacing Ethan Hawke who starred in the first film earlier this year. Grillo has recently been in the hits The Grey, End of Watch and Zero Dark Thirty and is currently starring in Homefront with a role in the Captain America sequel set for next year.
The Purge was a film with an inventive premise of allowing a single 24 hour day of crime, called The Purge, in the not-too-distant future. In exchange for no other crimial offences being permitted throughout the rest of the year, the police would allow criminals to run riot. However, unfortunately it didnt quite live up to what could have been by only focusing on a single family but it still raked in almost $90m, given its $3m budget. The scope for the sequel is huge and hopefully it should explore the idea a little further, presumably with Grillo as part of a different family on another purge evening.
No other cast has been announced and the film has a current release date of June 20th 2014, with filming yet to start.
