Stephen King’s novel Carrie has been the basis of all inspiration for director Kimberly Peirce’s contemporary adaptation. But Peirce has not just used the novel and copied Brian De Palma’s 1976 iconic original, she has modernised the narrative for a present-day audience. The director stated, “You have to do that in order to bring any great piece of work written in one era into the next“. To show just how modernised this version of Carrie is, MGM have released an exclusive official poster for us to feast our eyes upon! Check out the poster below! But beware… there will be blood.
Peirce’s adaptation still follows the basic narrative of Carrie White, a young girl who is bullied by all the popular girls in her school. But if that wasn’t enough, Carrie’s mother is a fundamentalist, who treats Carrie more like a puppet than a daughter. When the school bullying and her mother’s torture get too much, Carrie develops psychokinetic powers. With these powers Carrie can hurt all the people that made her life miserable… even her mother.
Starring Chloe Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore and Judy Greer; Carrie will seep its way to our cinema screens on November 29th.
