Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will head to television screens in HBO’s Ballers. Dwayne worked with Mark Wahlberg for a half-hour project, which then HBO ordered to be a series.
The ‘dramedy’ will follow a group of current and former American football players, seeing Johnson as one of the retired athletes. Other characters include a highly spiritual pro athlete, financial adviser, sports agent, ESPN sideline reporter and ex-wife of a pro football player.
Lone Survivor director Peter Berg will direct the pilot, while Wahlberg and his manager Steven Levinson will produce the series.
The Rock is known as a long lover of football and previously played for the University of Miami before picking up an injury. From there, the star went on to become a huge figure in the WWF/WWE.
Production for the series will take place later this year.
