The remake of De Palma’s 1976 film Carrie has been in development for three months now. The project has a director on board; Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry), however one major cast spot is missing. The role of the tortured young girl has yet to be cast. The site, Vulture says that both Chloe Moretz, best known for playing Hit Girl in the gruesome comedy Kick Ass and Haley Bennett, who will be seen alongside Ryan Gosling in Lawless, are the two finalists for the role. Shailene Woodley who debuted in this year’s drama The Descendents was reportedly offered the chance of the character but turned it down.
Other names that have been discussed for the role include; Dakota Fanning, Emily Browning, Bella Heathcote and Mirror Mirror star Lily Collins. Yet Moretz and Bennett trumped them all.
What is interesting about the casting for this film is that Moretz is 15 years of age whereas Bennet is 24. How can these two actresses be cast for the same role? Moretz seems like the most likely candidate in my eyes. She has a repertoire for horror and gruesome films and would fit the role perfectly. What do you think?
