Fox International Productions and China’s Bona Films are currently co-producing a Chinese remake of the 2009 hit Bride Wars, which starred Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway.
Production for the movie is already underway with filming having commenced in Shanghai. Starring Chinese popstar Angelababy (Angela Yeung) and fellow countrywoman and actress Ni Ni in the roles of Hudson and Hathaway, the story follows two friends who, after booking their weddings on the same date, turn into rivals.
It is being directed by Tony Chan, who has directed Chinese box office hits such as Hot Summer Days and Love in Space.
Commenting on the collaboration, Fox International Productions president Sanford Pitch said the following:
Tony Chan is truly part of the Fox family. The Bride Wars remake is our third collaboration. As soon as he told us his concept to re-imagine the original film, we knew that we’d found our next Chinese-language collaboration.
No release date is set yet but it has been confirmed that Bona Films will handle distribution in China while Fox International Productions will distribute the film internationally.
