For the Resort Collection 2015, Opening Ceremony takes woman from the boring city to an entirely different place: a dreamy tropical world filled with beautifully unique flowers and trees in unusual dimensions. In other words, a perfect utopia vacation – that looks into the future.
For the collection, traditional dress and floral prints look as if they are viewed through a looking glass and are filtered and distorted. Opening Ceremony contrasts colours of gradient sunset-horizon-to-water pastels and collaged prints with lush textures and pieced fabrics which create an established, hyper-sensational reality.
Transforming traditional tropical elements, Opening Ceremony use a recurring theme turning hothouse florals and palm fronds into micro- and macro- prints. This collection turns waterline horizons into tonal striped graphics, necklines, seam-lines, and a-skewed plackets, embracing the use of collage and redesign. Tree like graphics and petal cutout shapes are shown as a reinterpretation of anemone-like blossoms. The collection is texturised through highly tangible raffia palms and plush faux fur. Dimension is also added through color-blocking on maxi dresses, bralette tops and knits.
Deep-sea blue denim fabrications, cartridge-pleated detailing, and a summer-beach palette of blush pinks, wheat yellow, and blue, contrasted by white and black is highlighted through the collection’s accessories. Opening Ceremony introduces the Athena style – a sweet “lunch bag” shape that comes in small and large sizes for handbags. Custom printed leathers is also offered for the first time in women’s footwear.
