Do our eyes deceive us? Is that Victoria Beckham in WELLIES? Vogue UK had Victoria Beckham in a look we’ve never seen her in before, pushing wheelbarrows and hunched over on stoned wall. And we have never seen her look more radiant. Patrick Demarchelier is the man responsible for the stunning pictures.
The magazine explained they wanted to portray Beckham, “embracing her inner, welly-wearing self as if she were a latter-day Vita Sackville-West and playing the lady of the manor with gusto.”
Charming to see Beckham in a more rustic understated look rather than her usual glamorous style. We get a real sense of Britain as the beauty poses in Prada and Chanel outfits amongst the English countryside. Only Beckham could still manage to look flawlessly elegant in a pair of wellies.
The photos were so lovely that editor Alexander Shulman couldn’t decide on a cover, so picked two. The first is a profile shot of her holding an adorable dog. The alternative image is a much more obviously beautiful cover shot. We think he made the right decision although it does provide us with the hard decision of deciding which cover to buy!? (Would buying two copies be deemed slightly insane? Hm.)
The photo shoot accompanies a featured interview of which Beckham reflects on her life before reaching the landmark of 40.
“I looked at it [turning 40] and said to myself, I have four incredible children, an incredible husband, a business that’s doing very well. I’ve worked hard and achieved a lot. I don’t think I could have achieved much more,” she told Vogue. “I wouldn’t be where I am without David. He gives me the security and encouragement to do what I do. I do the same for him.”
The designer, among many of her successes, is about to release her first standalone store in London. When asked in the interview what advice she’d give to her teenage self, she stated,
“Well, I wouldn’t do anything differently. I’ve always worked hard and had a lot of fun, so there’s nothing I would change.”
The August issue of Vogue will be available from Monday.
