It seems that Valentino‘s new right-hand man is Terry Richardson. Quite literally. The renowned celebrity photographer has shot the brand’s latest ad campaign, which features his tattoo-clad right arm along side the Autumn/Winter accessories.
The playful photos promotes the “Camubutterfly” bags, (Valentino’s take on Camouflage), studded Rockstud Rouge and Rockstud Noir pieces and the dark butterfly prints. All in all, it’s a darkly sophisticated collection. One which seems to be leaning more on the raw, street vibe; emphasised in the edgy campaign.
Richardson’s ink-engulfed arm is the perfect accomplice to the pieces in this way, but still gives a dash of juxtaposition as we fight to see the brand’s usually romantic, soft aesthetic merge instead with the dark beauty of Richardson’s tattoo art.
Designers for the brand, Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri told WWD that the campaign images convey: “The sensual yet elegant nature of our accessories, described as objects of desire.”
Shot in Rome at Studio Backspace, the photos are to the point, punchy and certainly put the Valentino brand in the eye line of a more edgy, alternative audience: not to mention Richardson’s followers.
