Brazilian artist Sami Akl was born in São Paulo, Brazil in 1959. Akl was teased a lot in his father’s store, where the wooden supports of the tissues were transformed into a kite frame, which was then ascended to sky. At that time, the ability to design and fluency in aerodynamics were subtle signs of the vocation of an architect.
While the architecture grew with Sami, he also started scribbling on paper rolls when he was just five years old. His first models were friends of his father and the scenes of everyday life, as well as conversations in Arabic that he still did not understand.
Later came the paintings in oil on canvas and research techniques (watercolor, acrylic, even makeup) and themes (travel, memories, people). With the experience acquired, Akl developed a mixed, sophisticated and unique technique that combined collage, painting and drawing in his works.
Nowadays, the art of Sami Akl is found in exhibitions, galleries, and also in the hands of dealers and collectors. In 2006, Akl was nominated for Bienal de Santos, and in 2007, he received the Purchase Award Season Exhibition of Centro Cultural São Paulo. The Brazilian artist also participated in Documenta 12 Magazine in Kassel, Germany and in various exhibitions around the world, with the most recent one being in Berlin Stroke Art.
