Marc Jacobs always impresses with his campaign images, which are often verging on the absurd yet have a stark simplicity and beauty to them. For his latest Marc by Marc Jacobs campaign images, he didn’t use famous faces but instead went with a more interactive approach, launching a #CastMeMarc campaign where fans could upload images of themselves to Twitter and Instagram in the hope of being cast. And hope they did, with 70,000 entries from all over the world. Whittled down to 50 contenders, 30 finalists were picked and flown to New York where the final nine were photographed by David Sims.

With the line’s new head designers, Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley working on the campaign, it is no surprise the resulting images are colourful, popping with energy and boast a dynamic feel.

It seemed like a great idea to me, as casting through Instagram seemed cool, current and strong,” Marc told WWD

Current and cool the campaign most definitely is; there’s a freshness to the images, something that feels youthful and fun. Katie Grand styled the shots, bringing her edgy, free initiative to the final campaign photos. Marc Jacobs spoke on this youthful vitality to WWD saying:

“We wanted the ads to shout with youth and energy… To be fresh and reclaim the spirit that the collection had when we first conceived of it – to be another collection, not a second line.”

With the white background playing the perfect backdrop the explosions of colourful hair and wild expressions, the images definitely hold this presence of a strong spirited teenager with an eye for cool clothing. The full campaign will launch in the August issue of Teen Vogue.
