Despite being a relatively young name in the fashion industry JW Anderson has dived head first into the water, by launching his first ever advertising campaign. The Irish designer is known for being one London’s most innovative talents right now, and his new campaign is just that. It’s big, it’s bold and it’s brave.
A wave of Nineties nostalgia hit us when we first looked at the label’s adverts. Models were decked out in white man repeller slip ons, with their hair tied up in velvet scruchies.
Photographed by Jamie Hawkesworth, the campaign consists of four photos, all of which Anderson seems extremely proud of.
In a recent interview with Vogue he said:“I never have any self-control, we just thought why not? Let’s do it. I’m really happy with them, they really sum us up. I think it’s difficult to get a picture that does something quite calming and isn’t just about androgyny. They’re just awkward characters.”
With a clear business savvy head on his shoulders, the designer believes his campaign portrays the brand perfectly, “Obviously there will be a pressure to do still lifes of bags. But I think ultimately it has to sell a dream. Buying into something that’s a character, that’s what’s exciting and trying to find a unique image to us stylistically is very difficult.”
The adverts will be featured in numerous publications and be seen on flyers and posters, as well as selected stores.
