Jeremy Scott took over as the creative director at Moschino earlier this year and has already created an almost iconic collection for Fall 2014. The designer is known for his original, pop-culture inspired collections and his debut for Italian fashion house Moschino did not disappoint.
Making references to fast food and junk culture, we saw models emblazoned with the golden ‘M’ and walking down the catwalks holding trays.
The hype for his new collection reached a climax this week. The lookbook for his Moschino Resort 2015 collection showcased looks which seemed very familiar. The reason for this is that it appears Jeremy Scott used his own archive as inspiration for the new collection.
There were close similarities between some of the pieces fro the Resort collection and pieces from his own namesake collections from recent seasons.
Using your own work as inspiration is fine but at what point does it become too repetitive? We don’t think there’s a problem with being self-referential but it is a bit soon for him to be looking back at his best pieces. There were differences of course, one of the most iconic pieces from one of Jeremy Scott’s own collections, the coca-cola sequin dress was used and worked into a new creation.
This time, the dress said “drink Moschino” in a soda can style motif. The bandana print dress was turned into a bandana print two piece, with a wrap around halter-neck top and matching skirt.
Let’s hope that he goes back to his conceptual ways next season and brings us something fresh and exciting! View some of our favourite outfits from the collection below.
