Big things are happening for Jamaica in the fashion world. The Caribbean island will not only be associated with its beautiful weather, the music scene or sports, but the fashion industry too, where Isabell Kristensen as well as up and coming Jamaican designers, Christopher Childs and Natalie Christine exhibited their work in Jamaica’s first ever ‘haute-couture’ fashion show titled ‘Dawn to Dusk’.
Isabell Kristensen is known for many things in the fashion world, from dressing Katy Perry to costume designer for Shanghai Baby. Kristensen is the one we think of when it comes to Haute-Couture and experimental design, creating some beautiful pieces and working with the stars. Now she is the revolutionary designer to present her work for the first time in Jamaica! Her collection was inspired by the islands Orchids and Jamaican Boa and worn by ‘Natural Beauties’.
Europe’s largest Jamaican art collector Theresa Roberts said: “The event evoked memories of the 50s and 60s when Jamaica was the glamour destination of choice for the European jet set and Hollywood A list.”
“The natural splendour of the island and infectious excitement of its people combined with the highest quality events such as this surely mean that the sophisticated elite will quickly rediscover the pleasures that “The Rock” has to offer”.
All donations made from the event went to supporting the students and The Edna Manley Art College to help get Jamaica’s Arts and Culture more recognised.
