Fashion blogging has come a long way since its first appearance in the fashion industry, with fashion bloggers now having a major say and being game changers in the industry as well. According to a report from Women’s Wear Daily; those that have reached the status of collaboration and exclusive appearance are raking in over $1 million a year.
To put things into perspective, Stuart Weitzman paid The Blonde Salad‘s Chiara Ferragni roughly 30,000 Euros to attend the opening of its Milan flagship store last year. One of fashion blogger founders, Bryan Grey-Yambao, who we all know as Bryan Boy also attended the same event, and received $15,000. So now here’s the real deal, Coty Inc. was reported to have paid between $1,000 to $2,000 to various bloggers to write a post about Marc Jacobs‘ Daisy fragrance campaign.
However, it seems that these bloggers biggest earnings comes through the form of affiliate links. Here’s the lowdown: if a blogger was to write a post on her blog featuring a blouse from a certain brand, the link on his or her site will drive the readers to that brands website to check it out, where some would end purchasing that blouse. Now here is the catch; because of the recommendation, and thanks to the partnership that the blogger has with an affiliate link platform – the blogger essentially makes money from just a click onto that brands website and commission from the sale.
What is even more interesting to note, is that the top-earning bloggers fr0m the affiliate links aren’t the ones that we’ve come to know. RewardStyle is an affiliate link platform and states that its top earners can make more than $80,000 a month solely on affiliate commissions; with Mary Seng of Happily Grey, Chrissy Ott of The Perfect Palette and Erin Gates of Elements of Style make up the company’s top 20 list, their top earner is Rachel Parcell of Pink Peonies who according RewardStyle will take home more than $960,000 from just affiliate programs alone.
Looks like the $1 million blog club is the place to be; you can also find duo Tina Craig and Kelly Cook of Snob Essentials, who according to industry insiders will make more than $1 million this year, thanks to their handbag line, appearance fees and affiliate links under their belt.
