CBA to dump your boyfriend? Sick of your girlfriend? Fret not. There’s a new app on the market called Binder (a hilarious portmanteau of ‘bin’ + ‘Tinder‘), which aims to do away with any awkwardness and do the dumping for you. All you have to do is swipe right. Obvs.
The purpose of the app is further explained on its website: “Binder is a cloud service which makes breaking up with your other half easy. Let us know their name and and phone number and we’ll text and call them to let them know the bad news.”
Binder was created by Tennent’s Lager, so you should note that it’s 100% tongue-in-cheek, and not a genuine substitute for growing a pair and breaking up with someone face-to-face. However, it is a real thing and can be downloaded for free for both iPhone and Android.
While we haven’t tried Binder, one brave Cosmopolitan journalist did take the plunge. Thankfully she only ‘dumped’ a friend, not a partner, using the app – which is probably for the best because, as it turns out, breaking up with Binder is a pretty rotten thing to do. All you do is tell the app your soon-to-be-ex’s gender and phone number and you’re away. You also have the option to make things more personal by including a reason for the break-up (lovely examples include: “It’s not me, it’s definitely you,” and, “It’s like I’m living in some sort of unwakeable nightmare”). After that, your delicate relationship issues are in Binder’s hands.
Sounds like a nightmare to us. At least the reviewers on iTunes seem to be happy, though…
