Take Your Coffee Black? You Might Just Be A Psychopath

A new study suggests black coffee drinkers are more likely to have psychopathic tendencies. Guess your Starbucks order says more about you than you think…

We’ve always thought you can tell a lot about someone by their coffee order. Fans of a flat white are probably mildly pretentious, and decaf mocha drinkers are probably in denial. And those who take their coffee black are straight-up, take-no-BS types, right? Yep… and possibly also psychopaths.

A study published by food journal Appetite has revealed that people partial to bitter tastes – such as those of black coffee and Marmite – are more likely to possess psychopathic tendencies.

“General bitter taste preferences emerged as a robust predictor for Machiavellianism, psychopathy, narcissism and everyday sadism,” claimed Dr Christina Sagioglou, who pitted people’s tastebuds against their personality traits through a series of tests. You can read more about how the study was conducted here.

Is this something worth worrying about? It’s an emphatic ‘no’ from us (sorry, science people). We’re going to assume our ‘psycho’ traits are purely down to those terrible moments of caffeine deprivation and keep sipping on the black stuff. Life’s too short.
