A drunk driver has killed two people and injured 23 others, several of them critically, at South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival in Austin, Texas.
The incident happened outside the Mohawk Club on Thursday at 12:30 am local time (5:30 am GMT), and occurred as the man tried to escape police and ended up plowing through barricades set up for the festival.
A man and a woman, said to have been riding a moped, were killed and 23 others injured, five of whom are reportedly in a critical condition.
The driver hit a taxi before attempting to escape on foot, before being shot with a stun-gun and subdued. He is now in police custody. They are appealing for local witnesses to provide any information relevant to the incident.
Rapper Tyler the Creator, who was due to perform in the early hours of Thursday morning at the Mohawk tweeted:
“Show Isnt Happening. Something Sad Happened. I’m Bummed.”
