London pop-punk band Postcards! are as fresh as they come, being practically newborn babies of the music world. Having just launched themselves out in the open with an onslaught of social media introductions, awesome album artwork and a host of band photos, Postcards! aren’t taking this whole “being in a band” thing lightly.
Just a week or two after introducing themselves as a “no-nonsense pop-punk band from south east London”, Postcards! have unleashed their debut single ‘Remains’. The dirty pop-punk track features a fist-fight of raw punk rock vocals, melodic riffs and angsty lyrics that make for an unpolished and unapologetic debut. This is a band as far from clean-cut as you can get, and they make no excuses for that.
Speaking of the new single, Andy Sargent – lead vocalist of Postcards! – has said: “‘Remains’ is about not wanting to feel as if someone is wasting your time. It’s about knowing how good you could be with someone and them not actually giving you the chance.”
Not only is the track a great first look at Postcards!, with the down-to-earth, whole-hearted punk ethic the likes of early Alkaline Trio and Green Day, but the video that comes along with it is a real winner. Starring an adorable young child dressed up to the nines in pop-punk style – skinny jeans, checked shirt and beanie, no less – the video switches between the youngster and the band as they mirror each other in cool shots full of character and a homegrown, D.I.Y fashion.
“The video was set on the Thames, and it follows a disgruntled child which represents our inner selves, as we realise that life may not match up to expectations. We decided to use it as the first single because it was the first song we all fell in love with. It has all the energy we feel sums us up as a band.”
