With debut album ‘Forget Your Ghosts’ coming out in April, as well as a whole load of touring to promote it, 2015 is going to be an eventful year for Cambrdigeshire’s Phoenix Calling. We got in touch with them to chat about the album, British rock music and more.
HTF: Hi guys, perhaps you could start by telling us a little about yourselves.
PC: We are a 5 piece Brit rock band from Cambridgeshire. Basically, a group of mates having an awesome time writing and playing music we love!
HTF: It must be a busy time at the moment with you first full length Forget Your Ghosts coming out soon. How’s everything going?
PC: Everything has been amazing, gigging all the time, music video shoots, recording, playing acoustic sets at radio stations and doing interviews. It doesn’t stop coming. We are having the best time and things are really moving in the right direction.
HTF: For people who have never heard of you before – how would you describe your music, and why should they listen to the album?
PC: We would describe it as high energy Brit rock, with catchy driven choruses with a chance to sing along.
HTF: Are there plans to tour after the Forget Your Ghosts release?
PC: We are touring all around the release from March through to May. We have lots of great shows coming up all over the country, we cannot wait!
HTF: Who would you say are your main influences?
PC: Our main influences are all the amazing British rock bands about at the minute – Young Guns, Mallory Knox, Deaf Havana, You me at six, I Divide, Lonely The Brave. So many of these bands about at the minute and we are hoping to join them.
HTF: And who would be your dream band to go on the road with
PC: We would absolutely love to tour with Mallory Knox and Deaf Havana. They are our combined favourites throughout the band.
HTF: Where did you record the album? What was it like compared to previous experiences?
PC: We recorded the album at Regal House studios in Wisbech. It was mixed and mastered by Lee Batiuk who is amazing and has done a fantastic job on the album.
HTF: I heard you guys all play a lot of different instruments. Anything unexpected ever make its way into the studio?
PC: We brought a banjolin into the studio with us but unfortunately it didn’t quite make it on to the album!
HTF: What do you think of rock music in the UK at the moment?
PC: The rock scene is at an all time high at the minute, with all the bands mentioned above, we really want to make it on the scene and be at their level.
HTF: Anything else on the horizon we should know about?
PC: We have just recorded the music video for our next single ‘Wasted Life’. It was largely filmed at night on top of an iconic building in Birmingham. It is due for release in mid April – from what we saw of the footage it’s going to look amazing.
HTF: Thanks for speaking to us!
PC: Thanks for having us, PC x
