Summer is all about taking trips with your friends—whether that be a trip to the local Tesco for some ice poles or an extreme road trip across the USA is totally down to you (and your bank account). But if you do want to take a trip overseas and you’re more in the ice pole territory, you might want to start saving and avoiding the weekly pub-crawl because summer is fast approaching, friends!
And since it is almost summer, and we’re extremely excited to plan a much-needed vacation (adulting is hard. Am I right?), we decided to think up a list of some of the musically inspired destinations we want to travel to!
The site of Woodstock – White Lake, New York
Who wouldn’t want to go and see the birthplace of rock n roll festivals? The grand, hippie-filled Woodstock festival was unlike any other. It was an event in history that could never be repeated. (And hey, we’re sure those hippie buses beat sleeping in tents at Download Fest!)
We don’t even know what the site is now. It could still be a field, or it might be a parking garage. We don’t know. It doesn’t matter; we’re sure that Woodstock magic is still there!
Abbey Road – London, UK
Anyone who lives in London and likes the Beatles has already been there and done that, but it’s still pretty cool—especially for non-Londoners. Abbey Road and the studio of the same name is one of the coolest things we have. And if you have a friend who’s indifferent (or actively dislikes) the Beatles, even better, make them go with you and take pictures of you walking on the famous crossing!
Crossroads Kitchen – Los Angeles, CA
It has something to do with a member of blink-182, so we already adore it. Although it’s not technically Travis Barker’s restaurant, he is an investor–and he does spend a hell of a lot of time there! And even though we would still want to go to Crossroads even if they served mouldy banana peels, we’ve heard nothing but rave reviews from everyone who has been there. And we want to go dammit!
Warped Tour – USA
Okay, so we add Warped Tour to every list of ours, but we really do think it’s a must see! Warped is like Slam Dunk Festival on Redbull, or probably more accurately, Monster. Or Rockstar—whatever kind of energy drinks these rock bands are ingesting nowadays! Pop punk, metalcore, post-hardcore and alt-rock are just some of the genres you can expect to hear at this wild, travelling festival.
Lollapalooza, Chicago, IL
The main reason we want to go to Lollapalooza is because the name is just so fun to say!
Oh, and the acts are like, you know, good and stuff…
The annual alt-rock, metal, punk, hip-hop, EDM festival always has the weirdest, most eclectic lineups! So if you want to go to a place where you can see The Killers and Wiz Khalifa sharing the same air, Lollapalooza is the place for you! Lolla is also the ideal festival for your rock-hating friends. You can’t drag them to Download, and you can’t take them to Warped Tour, but Lollapalooza has Lorde and Tegan and Sara!
Whisky A Go-Go, LA
There are very few venues as historic as the Whisky A Go-Go. The legendary nightclub, located on LA’s Sunset Strip, has played host to many of our favourite rock bands, such as Guns N Roses, The Doors, Linkin Park, Motley Crue, and The Byrds. The venue is a real staple of rock n roll, and pretty much sums up everything it should be: powerful, gritty and fuelled by alcohol. The venue is so epic it has even been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
17 Nussbaum Road, Raymond, WA
Granted, it’s just some random person’s house now. But back in 1987, it was the house that introduced grunge heroes Nirvana. Okay, so it’s not exactly the epic, sweaty grunge hellhole we were expecting, but it’s still a cool piece of history we’d love to visit.
Dollywood, Tennessee
Dolly Parton‘s theme park? Try and keep us away!
