Everyone enjoys going to a good gig, but there are both pros and cons for musicians when you’re just going to watch.

You don’t have to be a musician to enjoy music. The thing about music is that it brings people from all walks of life together whether you play music yourself or not. Sometimes it’s an advantage to be a musician when you’re at a gig and sometimes it’s the nagging voice in the back of your head deterring you from the show. Here are some of what we consider to be the pros and cons of being a musician at a gig

Con 1 – No matter what instrument you play, you’ll always want it slightly louder in the mix, unless it’s perfect…but wait it could be slightly louder.

Pro 1 – You finally get to be part of the crowd, the people who can make or break the show so you get to be rowdy for a change, or just as usual.

Con 2A – You’ll be listening leisurely getting into the music but you’ll still pick up on mini slip ups but let it slide most of the time, unless you have that burning passion to run onto the stage and take over.

Con 2B – Or the opposite scenario to that, the band blow you away and you suddenly consider yourself not worthy and go back to the garage you came from.

Pro 2 – You don’t have to get to the venue ridiculously early for a stressful set up and sound check, roll up when you like and enjoy the music.

Con 3 – Musicians and drinking go together like cookies and cream, shaggy and Scooby, fish fingers and ketchip… very well basically you get the idea. So as you’re watching the gig you may notice what the band are drinking, and probably disagree with it, maybe.

Pro 3 – In opposition to this, you don’t have to worry about drinking too much so you can be off your face before the gig even starts so you don’t have to worry about a thing, not that you would anyway.

Con 4 – If it’s a new band you’ve never heard of you might pick up on cool riffs constantly trying to figuring out the mode rather than standing back and relaxing.

Pro 4 – You could also take inspiration by this, and just think wow. But the best thing of all you can just have a great time listening to some great music, because at the end of the day it’s what you love.
