If you had your own Monty the Penguin, what would you do? By now, we’ve all seen the new John Lewis advert for Christmas, and for those if you who haven’t – the video’s at the bottom of the page. John Lewis get it right every single year, and everyone who has seen this tear-jerker will agree that Monty is just simply adorable. I want my own pet penguin for Christmas!
Of course, Monty is the imaginary friend of a little boy, but what if we could all have a little penguins as our best friend? There’s so many awesome thing I’d want to do!
So here’s a list of fun things I’d do if I had my very own Monty (or Mollie, maybe!)
Go to tap dancing lessons.
Come on, admit it, recreating Happy Feet would be amazing. With a bit of training Monty and I could become a famous human and animal tap-dancing duo! People would travel from every corner of the world to come and see our routines.
Go on holiday to Antarctica.
We could jet off down to the South Pole for a week or two! I’d get to meet his family and friends and Monty could give me a tour of the sights. I’ve never been to Antarctica before so there’s lots of penguin culture I could explore. And, who knows? I might enjoy it so much I’ll never leave!
Ice Skating
With Christmas just around the corner, here’s a festive one. Even the thought of a penguin in teeny tiny ice skates, with a little scarf and gloves, makes me love this idea. I’d have to be really careful that nobody tripped over him (that might not end well), but besides that it would be great fun. I’m sure he’d be much better than me, so he could show me some of his skills.
Go to a fun-fair
With Winter Wonderland fairgrounds due to start popping up everywhere this month, having a go on the fun-fair rides is a must. The Ferris wheel, the merry-go-round, the bumper cars- the list goes on! I could try to win him another furry friend on the hook-a-duck stall or the ring-toss game.
Take him for a night on the town.
Jaegerbombs! Jaegerbombs! Can you imagine a penguin raving along in a nightclub? Neither can I. What sort of music would a penguin like? Coldplay? Vanilla Ice? I reckon with a few drinks down him, Monty might be a bit of a wild one. At the end of the night, we could stumble home sharing a box of cheesy chips. Perfect.
Paintballing
I have a feeling Monty might have a bit of a size advantage in this one, but he’d be useless at the camouflage part! I’d have to find him a mini gun and some penguin-sized goggles, then the war begins! Penguins vs Humans- who wins? You decide!
Sign up as contestants on a game show
Weakest Link, anyone? Or maybe Monty‘s more of a Pointless fan. Either way, going on a game-show with my new penguin friend would be awesome! His superior knowledge on fish and belly sliding, combined with my skills at watching TV… we’d simply be the dream team. We might even bag ourselves some cash out of it!
Go on a skydive
Penguins are one of the few birds that have wings, but can’t fly. How sad :( But luckily for Monty, I’d take him for his very own sky-diving lesson, so he could see what all the other birds are making a fuss about!
