Ice Nine Kills are about to head to the UK for their first ever tour and we’re super excited to catch them. Ahead of the tour we had a quick chat with frontman Spencer to find out what to expect and a bit more about them. We’ve all got an exclusive photo gallery of images from the bands’ recent Hell in the Hallways tour in the US. You can check the images out at the bottom but until then here’s what happened when we had a catch up.
Mosh: It’s the first time you’ve played in the UK EVER – what’s taken you guys so long?!
Spencer: We try to plan our touring in an extremely strategic way. We’ve wanted to come over for years, but we needed to wait for the right time, opportunity and album before doing so. We couldn’t be more excited to play in the UK.
Mosh: What can us Brits expect from the shows?
S: In a time in music where there is not a lot of thought put into live performances, we strive to give the kids not only a rock show, but a real theatrical experience. Our set list will be a good mix of our new album and fan favorites from our career.
Mosh: Your album ‘Every Trick In The Book’ explores a lot of dark themes and twists on classic literature. What was your favourite story/book growing up?
S: There was always something so cool to me about the character of Dracula. He was a villain but you still sort of wanted him to win. He was fearless, undead and got all the girls. What more could you ask for? Bram Stoker’s classic has stuck with me for so long that I made sure to include it on our new record.
Mosh: If you could star in one horror movie, what would it be, who would you play and why?
S: I would definitely choose the character of Billy Loomis from SCREAM. He embodies everything you want in a good serial killer: looks, charm, creative kills and brains. Also, It would give me the opportunity to date Neve Campbell, that’s a major bonus right there.
Mosh: Alfred Hitchcock or George A. Romero?
S: While I respect and appreciate Romero, Hitchcock’s films were beyond genius. His camera techniques, knack for great story telling and overall style, are still mimicked (but rarely equaled) to this day. Psycho set the stage for the slasher genre by inspiring film makers like John Carpenter and Bob Clark to make Halloween and Black Christmas, that alone secures his status as a legend.
