HTF are proud to introduce the amazing Helena Jesele…
Soul and jazz singer Helena Jesele is set to release her debut album ‘Sweet Sticky Fix’ on 4th February 2013. This year has certainly put Helena safely on the radar and with hype surrounding her debut there are already whispers of a Mercury Music Prize nomination.
The entire album was recorded in analogue where half was produced using a string quintet and live brass at the sound stage at Pinewood studios in London. Whilst the other half was recorded in Brooklyn, New York using musicians best known for playing with The Black Keys. ‘Sweet Sticky Fix’ has been recorded as a concept album, an album that can be listened in one sitting.
The Metro said of Helena “This Dubliner also has a retro feel, taking us back to the soulful days of Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin. Her star may be rising but this is the perfect track to kick back to and watch the sun set” whilst The Daily Telegraph said “Whenever she’s on stage, Helena Jesele has a real presence, it’s not just because she’s six-foot tall or her striking vintage sixties look, but also because of her powerful, soulful voice”
In her own words Jesele says “This album tells the story of the last two years of my life, from euphoric highs (Sun Is Rising) to crippling lows (Girl In London), with occasional chinks of playful light (Let The Game Begin). It’s a love story really, as well as a deep exploration into the unknown. Or perhaps that’s what love is anyway- unknown. We try to define it, understand it and put it in a box. But ultimately, it always edules us in the end”.
Keep your eye on this girl as she’s going to be huge in 2013!
