Every year people argue about Glastonbury’s line-up, but the festival offers so much more than music such as a circus, healing fields and the notorious, Shangri-La. This temporary mini-city is located in the festival’s south-east corner and is known for they elaborate political themes and crazy production.
This year’s theme, based on the UK’s recent election, seemed so relatable that we felt it was only right to show you guys first hand the crazy antics of Shangri-La. It’s never what you expect. You walk into a new world that initially takes your breathe away and then continually blows your mind as you find the smaller, less obvious parts of the pleasure city. One of this year’s highlights was the little secret presentation room for “Post-humanism” that played on the idea that mainstream media is dumbing down society. A team of actors would show 10 people a hilariously sarcastic presentation that tries to convert everyone into robots. Come the end, one person from the crowd in transformed into a robot in front of your very eyes and to celebrate everyone raves for 10 minutes to some Queen.
There’s plenty of secrets in Shangri-La the trick is to find them. It’s always a good idea to have a good look around the city before the bass from the Shagri-Heaven and Shagri-Hell stages lure you into a madness fucked up two step dance. We took some pictures of the area to try to give you an idea but ultimately Shangri-La is a place that needs to be seen to be believed.
