Since releasing their debut album and touring with the likes of Five Finger Death Punch and Papa Roach, hard rock up-and-comers From Ashes to New are going from strength to strength. Before they explode into the rock ’n’ roll stratosphere, we managed to catch up with the guys to chat to them about their debut releases, experiences on tour and unique rap-rock style…

MOSH: You’ve just released your debut album Day One – how have fans responded so far?

From Ashes To New: The fans’ response has been great! They have been spreading Day One all over social media, and we couldn’t be happier!

MOSH: What sort of impression of From Ashes to New did you guys want to give with the release of your very first full-length record?

FATN: I don’t know if we were going for an impression, but I think we all just wanted to prove to ourselves that we could do it, and maybe show others that we could do it too; show them that anything is possible, if you work hard enough at it.

MOSH: For people who haven’t heard your music before, what would you tell them to expect from your debut release? And for fans who are familiar with you guys, what would you tell them to look forward to the most about Day One?

FATN: For new fans, I would say it’s music that you can relate to, vent your anger to, but still has a positive message in the end. For those who have already heard us, I wouldn’t tell them what to look forward to the most, I would just say expect to hear the kind of music we have been making with a few new surprises that you have to checkout for yourselves.

MOSH: You’ve just released the single and video for ‘Through It All’, what made you decide to release this track in particular from the album?

FATN: It’s just something that happened organically. We all put in our input but, really, it just happened. Everyone just kinda gravitated towards that song.

MOSH: You have a unique style, featuring rap, rock and metal all in one. How did this blend of sounds come about?

FATN: We were all in different metal bands that used to play together in our local scene and, for the longest time, we were all just spinning our wheels not really getting anywhere. A lot of us moved around to different projects and some of us quit music all together. Matt decided to go back to his roots and start mixing in rap, I then came into the picture and helped him finish up some of the songs on our first EP and then we slowly started mixing in the other guys, one after another they were falling into place. We all knew each other to so there wasn’t any awkward “getting to know each other” phase. But our sound just organically came about throughout the writing process.

MOSH: Do you find having a variation of different genres in your music brings together different kinds of crowds?

FATN: I think so. We have so many different genres blended into our music that we almost have something for everybody!

MOSH: Some people might say you’ve taken a lot of inspiration from the nu-metal era, with the rap-rock style you experiment with – what sort of bands and artists inspired you all growing up?

FATN: Well I personally have so many influences  I could rant off band names all day but some of my main ones would have to be Alexisonfire, 36 Crazy Fists, Glassjaw, and Sevendust.  Each singer just has their own distinct style and so much character in their vocal approach. Other influences are Papa Roach, Taproot, Alice in Chains, The Human Abstract, It Dies Today and Incubus, and also a few influences today are Of Mice and Men, Bring Me The Horizon, City and Color, 30 Seconds to Mars… the list goes on and on, but all of us really listen to everything and have had so many influences over the years.

MOSH: You’ve toured with bands like Hollywood Undead, Papa Roach and Five Finger Death Punch – would you say you’re influenced by bands such as these, especially after spending time on the road with them?

FATN: Oh, we definitely have be inspired by them! Even as people they were inspiring, they all were so awesome to us, treated us like family. There was one time Jacoby from Papa Roach really helped me out with some vocal problems I was having – my allergies were killing me and making it very difficult to do my thing – but he showed me this spray he uses and it helped me out immensely.

MOSH: You’ve obviously had some great support slots with some amazing bands in the past, but what can you tell us about your plans to tour throughout 2016?

FATN: We are doing another great support slot in April with Hell Yeah, Escape the Fate and New Years Day. After that we’re gonna be on Warped Tour all summer – that, we’re really looking forward to!  We’ll be at a bunch of festivals – Welcome to Rockville, Carolina Rebellion, Northern Invasion and we have a bunch of other things coming up, but I’m not allowed to tell anyone until they’re announced!
