Brighton’s music scene is thriving. It’s definitely up there as one of the best places to be when you’re starting out in a band. There’s no shortage of small DIY labels or promoters and there’s a huge selection of live music venues from The Haunt, Concorde 2 and The Green Door Store to The Hope & Ruin, Sticky Mike’s and DIY venues like West Hill Hall. Having given rise to bands such as Architects, Black Peaks, Royal Blood and The Kooks, Brighton is definitely a promising place to be for smaller and determined bands.

There’s an enormous amount going on in the Brighton music scene, so we knuckled down and chose five Brighton-based bands that are deserving of some more attention.

Here are the five that you’ve got to listen to:

Gnarwolves

Formed in 2011, Gnarwolves are a Brighton punk rock three-piece signed to Big Scary Monsters. They play gusty fast paced skate-punk that packs a punch. On the 5th May this year they released Outsiders, the much anticipated follow up to their 2014 debut self-titled album. Gnarwolves combine raw melodic punk, sincere song writing and aggressive hardcore style drums to create fiery and cathartic music. Check out ‘Wires’, taken from their newest album here:
