Do You Remember The 2000s One-Hit Wonder Nine Days?

“This is the story of a girl, who cried a river and drowned the whole world.” Remember that song by Nine Days? Here’s what the band’s up to these days.

It’s highly likely that the name Nine Days doesn’t really ring the bell, but if you grew up in the early 2000s there’s a pretty high chance that you would have heard their track ‘Absolutely (Story Of A Girl)’. “This is the story of a girl, who cried a river and drowned the whole world,” – one of the biggest choruses of summer 2000. It’s the kind of pop rock hit you would put on a playlist featuring the likes of Fountain of Wayne‘s ‘Stacy’s Mom’ or Wheatus‘Teenage Dirtbag’. If there are any Lizzie McGuire fans out there, you might recognise it from the fated ‘Picture Day’ episode, when Lizzie’s parents made her wear that horrific unicorn sweater.

Nine Days have actually been a band since 1994, but it wasn’t until the release of 2000 album The Madding Crowd that they entered the mainstream with ‘Story Of A Girl’ topping charts. As is the case with one-hit wonders, the band eventually blipped off the radar but sadly enough, in the band’s case it was due to issues with their then record label Epic Records (an imprint of Sony Music).

Despite what many people might think, the band never broke up. They were rather quiet before leaving Epic Records, but have supposedly recorded a number of EPs and albums as well as sparking a couple of solo ventures. According to the band’s website, the four-piece are currently in the studio recording their ninth album Snapshots, which will pay homage to the “guitar driven pop” of The Madding Crowd that won hearts across America.

It will even feature a “sweet sixteen version” of ‘Story Of A Girl’, which for anybody who spends 90% of the time being nostalgic (as we do) sounds like a pretty good deal. The release show for Snapshots will be in NY July 2016, also serving as a celebration of over 20 years as a band. It would definitely be interesting how the band’s new album will fare, after so many years away from the limelight. In the meantime, we’re just going to watch the only two videos the band have on their YouTube channel and reminisce, as you do.
