Ever since Katie Holmes first stepped out in a pair of jeans looking like they belonged to ex-hubby, Tom Cruise, in 2008, the whole world seems to have gone ‘Boyfriend‘ crazy. Walk in any store and 9/10 times you’ll see ‘Boyfriend Jeans‘, ‘Boyfriend Blazer‘ and ‘Boyfriend Tee‘. Not that you’re likely to find any boyfriend walking around in neon blue or pink blazers and jeans with flowers imprinted on the pockets, but they’re just as comfy to wear as when you crawl out of bed on a Sunday morning and climb into your man’s kit for comfort and just as, if not more, sexy looking too!
Whether you’re a bit of a tomboy, a girly-girl or even a rock and roll chick, this on-going trend looks hot on everyone. From actresses like Sarah Jessica Parker and Sienna Miller to supermodels like Kate Moss and Miranda Kerr and everyone in between, this look is getting rocked all over the globe and doesn’t seem to be going away.
So, the ‘Boyfriend‘ look is…? Well, it’s pretty much exactly what is says, slightly looser-fitted clothes usually owned by the man in your life, only now you can buy your ‘Boyfriend‘ clothes in women’s clothes shops. Even top designers, such as Gucci, Armani and Helmut Lang are getting in on this look, but you’ll also find yourself a nice bargain in your local Topshop, River Island, Levi’s store and your nearest and dearest, good old Primark.
And for those band/’Boyfriend‘ tee’s? Well if you don’t fancy paying approximately £25 on a brand new one, you can always rely on the ‘totty shops’, and knowing that the money goes to good causes is an extra bonus! (My good deed for the day – tempting you into supporting your local charity with piles upon piles of boyfriend tee’s…).
The idea is taken from, literally, just throwing on your fella’s clothes, for example his worn-down jeans, old band tee’s, big cardigans, blazers and shirts, and just modifying to suit your shape and give you that extra sex-appeal. I mean, what man doesn’t love his ‘missus’ strutting around in his shirt? All you’re doing is throwing on a waist belt to flatter your shape and rolling up the sleeves to reveal a bit more skin – subtle but works a treat.
Even wearing the baggier items of the ‘Boyfriend‘ trend looks just as hot…throwing on a baggy t-shirt with a pair of short-shorts is one of my personal faves, a sexy look, comfy as hell and you don’t have to worry about those little unwanted lumps and bumps when you’re having a ‘fat-day’.
Whether you buy it from your favourite store or steal it from your other half, I definitely recommend giving this trend a go and just listen to the compliments come rolling in. So, boyfriend or no boyfriend, make sure the next thing you buy is of the ‘Boyfriend’ style…
