There are always going to be those times in life where you are about to go head-to-head with someone. Could be a simple game of the boys night in classic that is –  poker – if you can decide which variation to play , could be a particularly intense game of chess, battleships or twister, or even just a simple stare out – first to blink loses their entire house!

Well if you really want to up the suspense factor you need the perfect soundtrack, and what better than themes from Westerns. They are always epic, you always think of cowboys having a shoot-out, and you will always look incredible doing a head-to-head while they are blaring out of your speakers.

So let’s set the scene,  your with some mates, it’s poker night, you have convinced the girlfriends to sit around in their bikinis purely for that vegas vibe, you whack on the music and BAM! Suspense fills the air, and as you deal those cards down you can already smell the sweet aroma of anticipation in the air. By the time the first hand has gone by you may as well be playing for the lives of your entire family with that pressure!

So, without further ado, here are a few themes to up that suspense factor!

The Man With The Harmonica – Once Upon A Time In the West

The man with the harmonica pursued a cold blooded-murderer in Frank (portrayed by Henry Fonda) for what seemed like an eternity in the Wild West, as he attempted to seek vengeance for the opening scenes of the film, which show Frank’s hired guns attempting to kill the man with the harmonica. Much like the film, you are now the hunter and will take your opponent down with a mighty vengeance. Never has a game of Guess Who been so intense!

Main Theme – The Good The Bad and The Ugly

This iconic theme tune is an addition to this list that many of you would have seen coming from a mile away. Still renowned today as one of the most epic shoot-out soundtracks, Ennio Morricone’s score is produced almost to perfection, leaving nothing but trepidation in the air as all eyes fall on the gun fight’s participants. Fast forward to the 21st Century and the music can be used in perfect synchronisation for pretty much any epic situation. Put this on just as your about to build four hotels on Mayfair in Monopoly and watch your opponents faces drop it sheer terror. Wait, what?!? Your going to do the same on Park Lane as well? Shit just got serious!

La Resa Dei Conti (Music Clock) – For a Few Dollars More

And finally, another spaghetti western classic that, with an almost funeral like organ half way through,  is a theme that will make you want to ‘bury’ your opponent. All eyes will be stuck to the field of combat with not a blink in the entire house. Just imagine the sweat dripping off your opponents brow as they attempt to put that extra satchel on the back of the Buckaroo horse! A whole new level of insanity has been reached.
