Manchester based indie-pop band, Performance, release their new single ‘The Living,’ on 26th April.
This song owns a paradoxical tone, with a glitteringly exuberant melodic feel enveloping somewhat mournful lyrics. The stories they tell are reflective of the real life trials all involved have encountered: drugs, depression, disease, losing a band member. Instead of breaking the collective, their tribulations have strengthened their bond and given them a creative channel that has resulted in some great tracks, such as this beauty!
Performance are fronted by Joe Stretch, an internationally published novelist (‘Friction’ in 2007 and ‘Wildlife’ in 2008) – which is obviously a benefiter to the talent found in the band’s lyrical culminations. Joe Cross (Synth, Bass, Programming) and Laura Marsden (guitar) formed the electro-pop duo ‘Kiss in Cities’ as well as being part of other projects, but here we see Performance unite with a fitting prelude to their new album ‘Red Brick Heart’ which will be out later this year.
