A remake of Renny Harlin’s 1996 film Cliffhanger is in the works. Producer Neal Mortiz and a new screenwriter have been hired to push the development of the remake forward. Joe Gazzam was given the nod to write the screenplay based on his new pitch
Deadline reports that StudioCanal has the rights to the remake. We do not know how true to the original film the remake will be, but it probably will not include star Sylvester Stallone who played a mountain climber/rescue ranger whose friend dies in a climbing mishap. As he is unable to save her, Stallone’s character bails on climbing until he returns to the mountains when thieves kidnap other rangers in an effort to search for suitcases of cash.
