Netflix released a trailer this week for their first “original” anime series, Knights of Sidonia, set to be released in a 12 episode block on the streaming website on July 4th.
The series is based on a Japanese comic book of the same name and follows the story of Nagate, “a low-born youth in a society of genetically engineered refugees who escaped the destruction of Earth one thousand years earlier and now occupy the massive ship Sidonia,” Netflix explained. The species must protect themselves from oncoming attacks from aliens.
The series is not so “original” as Netflix have claimed. Knight of Sidonia has just finished it’s 12 episode run in Japan, but Netflix has bought the exclusive rights to stream it legally in the U.S and have cast voice actors to produce an English-dubbed version. The series will also be available with subtitles for those who prefer it.
