Hi, what are you looking for?

A Letter To My 16-Year-Old Self: Sophie

What would you say to your younger self if you had the chance? Our writer Sophie lets it all out…

Dear 16-year-old self,

First things first, you are NOT going to be a crazy cat lady. When you’re feeling down in the dumps about it, take your sorry lil ass and go party! You don’t need no man to define you! But, saying this, you will encounter endless dates and f*ckboys that screw you over; you will find a man that will treat you like the princess you are in the future!

Life may seem crazy with your GCSEs, but chill dude! Wait ’til you encounter the real world – then it’s time to stress. Your dream of living in a big city will come true but, first, you will explore so much of the world. Even better, you’ll get to teach and write! You will be scared shitless on certain adventures, but that makes you the person you are today. Embrace the sassy, cultured, independent woman you are.  It will take time but keep up the hard work and you will get there. Don’t give up on yourself!

There will be people you think will be your best friend forever but you do lose touch with people over time. Unfortunately there’s not a lot you can do as life does get in the way, but you will make new friends who will rock your world. Not only that, you will connect with friends you haven’t seen in years, which is totally awesome, right?! Don’t ever forget that it’s quality over quantity!

You can say NO and be sassy sometimes. Saying yes all the time is mentally draining and you have to make time for yourself. It’s great to do all the hours at work and have a huge pay check and it’s always good to be sociable but you do need time to chill out and rest. Why wouldn’t you want to lounge around in your PJ’s all day, read and drink tea? Sounds like perfection to me!

Jobs come and go but you will find yourself in a workplace that you LOVE. It will take time to find your dream career but for the time being, you future job is awesome. You will be always quoting #squadgoals and finally man up and let partners write your number on a cup for that guy with the nice eyes. See, who needs to find their dream job straight away?

Saying that, your dream career will be on its way soon. Being your drunken self, you’ll manage to get work experience drunk – a job with a local editorial company which will kick-start your career! The team are awesome and allow you to explore articles you never would have written in a billion years!

So you may feel a little lost with all your friends racing off to university whilst you’re still stuck at a day job but don’t fret. Your time will come when you get to travel the world, have amazing friends and get your dream job. Have a lil’ confidence in your short ass self and you’ll get where you want!

Lots of love from your future self. Xx
